Microdermabrasion at Orchid Aesthetics, Manhattan, New York
ImageDerm Diamond Microdermabrasion
What is Microdermabrasion?
It is a quick, non-invasive procedure used to resurface the skin with aluminum oxide crystals, or micro-diamond tips which gently remove the top layer of the skin containing dead skin cells. It then promotes the growth of new skin cells in the basal layer of the dermis. The technique exfoliates and gently resurfaces the skin, promoting the formation of new, smoother, clearer skin.
How many treatments are required?
For best results microdermabrasion is usually recommended in a series of 4-6 sessions. You will be able to see instant results after the first treatment.
What are the side effects?
As your skin is denuded of the protective layer of epidermis and it is subjected to the damaging effects of the sun, for 10-20 days you must apply sun protection with an SPF of 45 or higher. Your skin is very sensitive while peeling, for up to 7 days and an appropriate moisturizer must be applied twice daily or as recommended by your professional. You must not lay in the sun and expose on purpose the area treated by Chemical Peel or icrodermabrasion, even if it has sun screen on, for up to a month after the procedure.
Can I use Retinol before or after a Chemical Peel?
It is a decision to reach together with the professional involved in your treatment. At Orchid Aesthetics Medical Spa our aesthetics physician recommends staying off Retinol products for a week before and after the Peel/Microdermabrasion but each person can have a different reaction to combination treatments.
Chemical peel before Microdermabrasion?
If you practitioner recommends microdermabrasion at the same time we prefer to apply the peel first, completely dry the skin and proceed with microdermabrasion after. At our New York Medical Spa, an aesthetic physician supervises and trains estheticians in all procedures and skin care products. The philosophy of a chemical peel to precede a microdemabrasion is dual: first better results, by breaking down the desmosomes between dead-skin-cells they are more easily removed by the mechanical abrasion that follows with the aluminum oxide salts or microdiamond tips; secondly, the aluminum salts can sometimes irritate the skin if applied before the peel.
Does The Spa Provide after care?
We have available after care products for each of the Peels/Microdermabrasion treatments. They are medical grade, prescription strength physician supervised skin care products. We individualize skin care to your specific requirements.
