Laser Treatments with Sciton BBLs
Laser treatments with Sciton BBLs are safe for treating various skin disorders, and have been used in cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery since the early 1960’s. Laser rejuvenation with BBLs has been efficacious in the areas of acne, spider veins, brown spots, rosacea, and hair removal.
Laser rejuvenation works by generating beams of light onto a specific site of the body. The light is absorbed by the red blood cells that carry oxygen (oxyhemoglobin) and the melanin, and causes the destruction of unwanted cells and stimulate production of new healthy cells in the body. This is all done without breaking the surface of the skin. Some of the unwanted skin disorders are vascular lesions : spider veins. Pigmented legions are created by density of melanocytes in the epidermis or dermis: freckles, brown age spots, and moles. Melanin is what gives our skin its color. Pigmented lesions are dark in color simply because melanin is abnormally concentrated in one area of the skin. High concentrations of melanin can be due to various factors. Some types are present at birth, but most occur with age or as a result of overexposure to the sun’s damaging rays.
Laser treatments regenerate the epidermis and dermo-epidermal layers. This process begins within 24 hours after treatment and is often complete after 7-10 days.
How long does a laser rejuvenation treatment last?
Depending on the area being treated, the session may last approximately 20-40 minutes. Avoid direct sun exposure 10 days before and after treatment and wear very light make-up the day of your treatment. The procedure is painless most of the times. No topical anesthetic is needed but if you are very sensitive the doctor can apply a thin layer of topical lidocaine for your comfort.
