About Spider Vein
Spider veins are small superficial blood vessels that appear red or blue in the skin. They commonly occur on the legs, but are also found on the face or other areas of the body. The cause of spider veins is not completely known, and rarely occurs as part of an internal disease. Spider veins can occur in a small area where they are not very noticeable, or they can cover a large area of skin and be very unattractive.
These dilated blood vessels may be short, unconnected lines, each about the size of a large hair. Spider veins and small varicose veins can be treated with laser treatment applied from the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are a larger dilated blood vessel that may be raised above the skin surface. They may occur with spider veins. Varicose veins occur mainly from genetic susceptibility.
Spider veins appear in both men and women, but more frequently in women. Female hormones may play a role in their development. Some of the ways it may play a role is with birth control pills, or hormone replacement therapy. They may also appear after an injury or as a result of wearing tight girdles or hosiery held up with elastic bands.
Laser Spider Vein Removal
Laser spider vein removal applies an intense energy that essentially destroys the small blood vessels in the surface of the skin. Results are variable, and multiple treatments may be necessary to have some benefit. Laser spider vein removal is generally less invasive than sclerotherapy and vein stripping. Possible problems may involve a temporary discoloration of the skin.
How Many Laser Spider Vein Treatments are Needed?
Typically, one to three laser spider vein removal treatments are needed. Treatments can be done every four weeks apart. Cherry hemangiomas (red dots on the body) usually only require one or two treatments.
How Soon Will I See the Results?
Results are rarely seen immediately, mostly within three to four weeks after the treatment. That is how long it takes for the body to absorb the coagulated vessel.
Are Laser Spider Vein Treatments Painful?
The treatment is not painful, but can be perceived like a stinging sensation by some clients. For further comfort, topical anesthetic can be applied but it is not usually required. Clients can return to normal daily activity immediately after the treatment.
