Juvederm vs. Restylane Injections

Both Juvederm and Restylane are facial fillers and both are made of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. The difference between them rest in a thicker consistency for Juvederm and better longevity.

Therefore Juvederm is injected by physicians into the deeper dermis compared to Restylane which is injected more superficial into the dermis. As a consequence Restylane can correct fine wrinkles or folds but is less efficient or is needed in larger amount to correct deeper folds or to provide cheek augmentation.

On the same token, Juvederm Ultra and Perlane are thicker hyaluronic acids, and can correct deeper folds than Restylane and offer better longevity to the treatment. Juvederm Ultra Plus is even more consistent and can be used comparable to Radiesse for cheek augmentation, deep nasolabial folds or marionette lines.

Physicians at Orchid Aesthetics prefer Restylane around the eyes or lips because it is associated with less swelling.

When a fuller lip is desired and the patient targets longer lasting results we use Juvederm and Juvederm Ultra Plus in lip augmentation. Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus are a much better choices for premalar and cheek augmentation, correction of the jaw line for better definition, chin augmentation, eyebrow lift. Restlyane comes in a larger syringe size (1cc), whereas Juvederm and Ultra Plus come in a 0.85cc syringe.
